My name is Elizabeth West and I write non-fiction professionally, dabble in fiction writing, and love to read well-written fan fiction. My favorite is Pride and Prejudice fan fiction. On the right there is me, marrying my own “Mr. Darcy,” in 2005. Believe me, it is an impressive tale to tell of all the obstacles and trials we went through just to get to that altar! The good news is I am now on fantastic terms with my in-laws. But at the beginning, it was not unlike Lady Catherine’s inspection of Elizabeth Bennet and finding her unacceptable.
I live just outside of Charleston, SC in a small town called Moncks Corner. My husband is in the military, so we move around quite often. I have an awesome 10-year-old stepson and a rather rambunctious 18-month-old little girl.
My favorite type of fan fiction has to be those that take place during the Regency period. While I don’t wish to live during that time period, as I know enough of history to be aware life wasn’t as wonderful as it is penned, the romanticism captures me. I can remember the times in my life when holding a boy’s hand was a very big deal. In middle school, my friends and I would co-conspire to sit next to our crushes on school field trip bus rides. By high school, the gossip of who was with who kept everyone talking in marching band. That isn’t to say I don’t like the grown up stories with full details of life after the wedding of Elizabeth and Darcy, too.
I began this site because it is a resource I wish was already out there. I have precious little time to write articles, let alone fan fiction stories. Having a toddler, a fifth grader, and a husband keeps my plate pretty full. Regardless, it is very difficult to write a full novel length story. I know “real life” as it is termed in the fan fiction world slows or stalls many writers. I am indebted to those who have published their finished works online, and hope others will find them as distracting and comforting as I do. What began as notes on my favorite stories and a ridiculously long and hodge-podge list of bookmarks in my browser is now this blog, Jane Austen Fan Fiction Reviews.
